Arkan (Romanian: Arcan, «arkan», «lasso», «circle») is a Ukrainian folk dance for men, widespread in the west of the country. An element of the rite of initiation, the dedication of a Hutsul youth into a legion. After passing the rite, he received the right to dance, carry axes -bartku, a wide belt-cheres and kill enemies.
They dance in a closed circle or semicircle with hatchets in their hands. Characteristic rhythmic alternation - 2/4 in the first measure and 2/8 and 1/4 in the second. The "ARKAN" collection is like the dance itself , becomes the embodiment of energy and grace, creates the effect of movement and play of light, mirroring clear movements of dancers in a circle.
